Creating Build Kits and Bundles in ShipHero

Overview

Use this guide to turn an existing bundle SKU into a build kit in ShipHero. You will map the bundle to the individual products the warehouse should pick, set the quantity of each component, enable Build Kit, and push the resulting available inventory to the connected Shopify store.

The examples use a six-pack containing six single units and a twelve-pack containing twelve single units plus one accessory. Example SKU names below are generic.

Before you start: Confirm the bundle SKU, every physical item included, quantities, and the fulfillment warehouse. Check whether the bundle already has orders or backorders. The recording warns that existing orders may need attention after conversion; review those orders separately rather than assuming this setup fixes them.

Step 1: Open the bundle product

Find and open the existing bundle SKU in ShipHero. Confirm the product and warehouse before making changes. The six-pack example uses BUNDLE-6 in Mountainy AZ.

Review the product details and Kit Components section so you know whether a kit is already configured.

Step 2: Identify the stocked single-unit SKU

Search for the individual product that makes up the bundle. Open the product and confirm it is the single unit you actually hold inventory on, not another two-pack, three-pack, or kit.

In this example, the base component is UNIT-SKU. The Kits section on a component product can list bundles that use it; that is different from the product having its own Kit Components.

Important: Follow the video's approach of mapping directly to the individual inventory SKUs, not nesting one kit inside another.

Step 3: Add the component for the correct warehouse

Return to the bundle product. Under Kit Components, search for the component SKU and select the result for the same warehouse as the bundle.

The search can show both Mountainy AZ and Primary results. For the AZ six-pack example, select the AZ component. Do not choose a warehouse just because its result appears first.

Step 4: Set the component quantity

Open the component's Quick Edit control. Set Kit Quantity to the number of individual units included in one bundle, then click Update and close the editor.

For BUNDLE-6, set UNIT-SKU to 6. Add and configure any other required physical components before moving on.

Step 5: Enable Build Kit on the bundle

Click the pencil beside the bundle's Details section. Scroll down and select (Build Kit) Break the components of this kit into separate line items on an order. Click Update.

This is the Build Kit setting, not Auto Fulfill, Auto Pack, or Is Virtual. Leave unrelated settings unchanged. The screenshot below shows this same checkbox in the twelve-pack example.

Step 6: Check the resulting kit inventory

Return to the bundle details and confirm the component mapping and available quantity look reasonable for that warehouse.

As a simple sanity check, 12,000 available single units could support 2,000 six-packs. Use current available inventory rather than assuming all on-hand units are available; allocations and other required components can affect the result.

If the result is unexpected, recheck the component SKU, warehouse, quantity, and Build Kit setting. Review any existing orders or backorders separately. Inventory numbers in these screenshots are examples from the recording, not current stock.

Step 7: Push available inventory to Shopify

On the bundle product, open the Stores section and confirm the intended connected Shopify store. Under Push Available Inventory, click Push.

This is a separate step from enabling Build Kit. The video recommends pushing the newly calculated availability rather than waiting for another inventory event to trigger an update. Allow time for the sync, then check the resulting availability in Shopify; the push is not an instant-sync guarantee.

Step 8: Repeat for bundles with additional items

Confirm the complete bundle contents each time. A bundle name or pack count alone may not tell you about included accessories.

In the second example, BUNDLE-12 uses the following components in Primary:

  • UNIT-SKU: 12 units

  • ACCESSORY-SKU: 1 unit

Add both components, confirm their quantities and warehouse, then complete the same Build Kit, inventory-check, and inventory-push steps.

Final check

  • The correct bundle SKU and warehouse are selected.

  • Every physical component is mapped to its stocked single-unit SKU.

  • Each component quantity matches what should ship in one bundle.

  • Build Kit is enabled and saved.

  • Available inventory has been checked and pushed to the intended Shopify store.

  • Any existing orders or backorders needing review have been identified separately.
