Bubble Mailer Supplier Specifications for Mountainy Fulfillment
Last updated: March 8, 2026
1.0 Introduction & Purpose
This document provides essential manufacturing and modification specifications for all bubble mailer products intended for shipment to and fulfillment by Mountainy. Adherence to these guidelines is mandatory to ensure compatibility with our automated packaging and fulfillment systems.
Our goal is to ensure a seamless, efficient, and error-free receiving and fulfillment process for our mutual clients. Mailers that do not conform to these specifications will be rejected, leading to receiving delays and potential additional costs for the client. This guide is intended to be shared directly with your production or supply chain team to clarify the required mailer format.
2.0 The Core Requirement: Open-Top Mailers
The single most critical requirement is that all bubble mailers must be supplied in an "open-top" configuration. This means the standard self-sealing flap, typically found at the top of the mailer, must be completely removed before the mailers are shipped to our facility.
✓ ACCEPTABLE: Mailers with a clean, straight-cut top edge and no sealing flap. ✗ NOT ACCEPTABLE: Standard mailers with the self-sealing flap and adhesive strip still attached.
Visual Comparison: Standard vs. Mountainy-Ready Mailer
The diagram below illustrates the difference between a standard, off-the-shelf bubble mailer and the required Mountainy-Ready open-top format.

3.0 Why Is This Modification Necessary?
Mountainy utilizes an automated bubble bagging system to achieve high-speed, reliable order fulfillment. This machinery is specifically designed to handle open-top mailers. The process relies on two mechanical claws to grip the top edges of the mailer and pull it open for product insertion, after which the machine closes and heat-fuses the bag shut.
The presence of a sealing flap obstructs the machine's claws, preventing them from gripping and opening the bag. This halts the fulfillment process and requires manual intervention, defeating the purpose of the automation. Because the machine applies heat to permanently seal the bag, the original adhesive flap is entirely unnecessary and must not be present.
4.0 Modification Guide for Suppliers
We request that this modification be performed at the point of manufacture or as a post-production step prior to shipment. The modification is straightforward: a single, clean, straight cut to remove the top flap from each mailer.
Where to Cut
The cut should be made along the base of the sealing flap, at or just above the line where the flap joins the main body of the mailer. The goal is to remove the entire flap assembly — including the adhesive strip, tear-away liner, and any overhang material — while leaving the main pouch of the mailer completely intact and undamaged.

Cut Specifications
Cut Line Direction — Straight and perpendicular to the mailer sides. Angled or diagonal cuts may interfere with the machine's claw alignment and cause jams.
Cut Edge Finish — Clean and smooth, with no tears, burrs, or fraying. A rough or jagged edge can snag on machine components and prevent a reliable grip.
Adhesive Residue — No exposed adhesive may remain on the mailer body. The entire flap and adhesive assembly must be removed. Residual adhesive will cause mailers to stick together in the hopper.
Mailer Body Integrity — The main body of the mailer must not be cut into or damaged. The cut should not extend into the bubble-cushioned area of the pouch. The pouch must remain fully sealed on all three sides (bottom and two sides).
Consistency — All mailers in a shipment must be cut to the same specification. Inconsistent cut heights across a batch will cause machine calibration issues.
5.0 Summary of Requirements
To prevent delays or rejection of your shipment at Mountainy's receiving dock, please ensure all bubble mailer orders adhere to the following checklist before dispatch:
Remove the Top Flap Entirely. All mailers must be delivered in an open-top state. No portion of the self-seal flap or tear-away liner should remain attached to the mailer body.
Ensure a Clean, Straight Cut. The top edge must be straight, perpendicular to the sides, and free of tears, burrs, or fraying. Consistent cut height across all units in a shipment is required.
Confirm No Exposed Adhesive. The entire self-seal adhesive assembly must be removed. No sticky residue should remain on the mailer body that could cause mailers to adhere to one another in the hopper.
Preserve Mailer Body Integrity. The three sealed sides of the mailer (bottom and both sides) must remain intact and undamaged. Only the top flap is to be removed.
